A power strip or indoor wiring is a parallel connection of resistors also. The electrical devices in each parallel circuit operated independently.
Due to the nature of the parallel connection, if many electrical appliances are used simultaneously, the total resistance will be small and a strong current will flow.
If it is shorted without passing through resistance, overcurrent flows and there is a risk of fire.
