Reaction time measurement (visual and auditory responses)

Reaction time

In a conscious response, it takes some time to respond to a stimulus. This is because signals require time to be transmitted and processed.

  • Reaction by vision: stimulus → eye → sensory nerve (optic nerve) → cerebrum → motor nerve → muscle → response
  • Response by hearing: stimulus → ear → sensory nerve (auditory nerve) → cerebrum → motor nerve → muscle → response

In general, auditory responses take longer than visual responses. This is because auditory responses have a more complex and longer path than visual.
