Conductor and Insulator

What happens when the charged body is close to the conductor and insulator?

  • Conductor
Electrostatic induction is a redistribution of electrical charge in an object caused by nearby charges’ influence. In the presence of a charged body, an insulated conductor develops opposite charges on the near end and the same charges on the other end.
  • Insulator
When a charged body is brought near a neutral substance, the distribution of charge in atoms and molecules is shifted slightly. An opposite charge is attracted nearer the charged rod, while the same charge is pushed.
